Our Work

RWV Industries is an Australian Company specialising in Lightning Protection & Earthing Systems for Commercial and Industrial buildings located throughout New South Wales and Queensland, Australia.

Why do you need Lightning Protection?

Lightning is a naturally occurring electrical discharge in the atmosphere caused by a charge imbalance between regions in the air and/or ground and remedied by the passing of current between the two charges. Cloud-to-ground lightning strikes are a common phenomenon—about 100 strike Earth’s surface every single second—yet their power is extraordinary with each bolt containing up to one billion volts of electricity.

In the event of a strike, lightning will find a path to earth that may include electrical lines, phone, cable, water pipes, or even the building itself. The principal effects of a lightning discharge to an object are electrical, thermal and mechanical and the power contained in the discharge is such that it has the potential to be hazardous to structures, people and installations or equipment in, on or connected to the structure. Lightning may even cause injury or death to a person if it cannot find a safe path to earth.

To reduce lightning damage and its consequential effects, lightning protection measures may be required.

What does Lightning Protection Entail?

There are no proven devices and methods capable of preventing lightning. 'Direct Strike' lightning protection systems involve air terminals, down conductors and earth termination networks which are positioned to intercept a lightning discharge and provide a safe, direct and low resistance pathway to dissipate to earth. The system provides a zone of protection for the structure and its occupants. A complete lightning protection system, may also include equipotential bonding of roof elements and service entry points and surge protection devices that will help prevent harmful electrical surges and possible fires caused by 'indirect' entry of the lightning discharge surge.

AS1768:2007 is the Australian Standard for Lightning Protection. The Standard sets out guidelines for the protection of persons and property from hazards arising from exposure to lightning. An AS1768 system is grounded in the history of lightning protection, it typically uses a network of what have historically been termed Franklin Rods (initially invented by Benjamin Franklin in the 1700's as part of his exploration of electricity) and protects via what is sometimes also known as a Faraday Cage system (the cage was invented by Michael Faraday in the 1800's and actively shields what it encloses from external electric fields) with the AS1768 air, downconductor and earth network forming the cage to retain the lightning charge on the outside of the structure and allowing it to discharge harmlessly to earth.

ESE Systems, or Early Streamer Emission air terminals, are a non-conventional lightning protection system that use innovative technology to provide enhanced coverage. The device sends upward leaders to intercept the downward strike, extending the zone of protection. An ESE System can potentially provide greater versatility than an AS1768 System.

Installations

At RWV Industries we can design and construct a Lightning Protection System to suit any commercial, industrial or residential building.

Different buildings require vastly different solutions for lightning protection and our team can visit your site or look at your plans and determine the best, low cost effective design and install the most appropriate protection system for your project.

RWV Industries have all the resources, materials and plant equipment to complete any project to a high quality work standard. We also take our OHS seriously and are compliant to any projects we work on.

Inspections and Tests

Your "Lightning Protection System" should be inspected regularly for integrity and compliance purposes.

At RWV Industries our qualified technicians use calibrated test equipment for accurate results, we thoroughly inspect your property from the basement to the roof level, and test all components and make sure your system is compliant to Australian standards, you will also be given a in depth report of your system.

To make sure it's in excellent working order, we advise a yearly inspection takes place.

If you would like a price of your annual inspection please go to our "Contact Us" page for a quotation of your premises.
